Director - St. Louis Office

DESCRIPTION

The Roderick and Solange MacArthur Justice Center is accepting applications for the position of Director of RSMJC’s office in St. Louis, Missouri. RSMJC is a public interest law firm that was founded in 1985 to fight through litigation for the civil and human rights of vulnerable persons in the criminal justice system. RSMJC has offices in Chicago, New Orleans, Oxford, Mississippi and Washington, DC, in addition to St. Louis. The St. Louis office (http://stl.macarthurjusticecenter.org/index.html) has an active docket of high-impact civil rights litigation, including class action challenges to the indigent criminal defense system and to the procedures for revoking parole. Although RSMJC’s St. Louis office was opened just one year ago, RSMJC is already recognized as a powerful force for change in the Missouri criminal justice system.  

The position entails management of an active docket of civil rights cases and selection of cases for the docket; supervision of the attorneys and staff in the office; first chair litigation of complex civil rights cases; and interactions with the media, peer organizations and the public regarding the work of the office. Qualifications for the position include membership in the Missouri bar (or the ability to become licensed to practice law in Missouri); at least ten years of experience conducting civil litigation, including civil rights litigation; strong leadership, interpersonal and communications skills; the proven ability to handle first chair responsibilities in complex civil rights matters; and a passionate commitment to the rights of the vulnerable in the criminal justice system.
